Take a Walk through Humpybong Park

This is the true start of the Queensland colony, where the first convicts landed for the southern Queensland settlement. The settlement was moved in 1825, to the current capital city site of Brisbane. A few remaining buildings were named ‘umpi bong’ or dead house, by the local aborigines; eventually this was transferred to English as Humpybong. Anyway, the Humpybong Park walk is a very pleasant stroll along the creek.

Start at the corner of Sutton St and Creek St. See the lake with footbridge and the statue of the three dolphins. The wonderfully presented lawns and spaces along with the dedicated park benches, the shaded platform jutting over the creek, for the birdlife, and occasional big eel.

Further along, the path goes under Anzac Road. See the Frank Feron Workshop of Redcliffe Museum and Picnic Hill.

Then see the skatepark, with young Jackson doing a trick. And the subset park of Corsadden Park. Further along the walk look to the west for the Redcliffe Harness, Racing & Sporting Club, and to the south for Redcliffe War Memorial Swimming Pool. Say a 20 minute walk down, and then 20 minutes back.
