Whether you're a serious runner after a challenge or simply want to set yourself a fitness goal in 2016, the 30th Annual Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run (J2J) is the perfect event for you. The run, which spans the majority of the coastline, has 4 different divisions - 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km.
Dubbed "Queensland's most scenic fun run", the J2J will plot its way around the stunning Redcliffe Peninsula on Sunday, 17th July. Regularly attracting over 4000 entrants, J2J race Director, Kate Jackson, believes this year's race will be the most special yet.
It's amazing that the J2J is in its 30th year. People of all ages and fitness levels keep coming back because they love the atmosphere as much as the challenge."
As a point of interest, Gerry Clarke, the co-owner of Pocket Books has participated in running events for most of his life. Gerry was the 1969 captain of the cross-country team at Xavier College in Kew, Melbourne and met many great runners throughout his time there. Robert de Castella (Deek) was a junior member of Gerry's cross-country team at the time.
Gerry also ran once with the Steve Moneghetti, the famous Australian long-distance runner at Warwick, Queensland. Steve is the liaisons officer for Australian Athletics at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will be held here in Queensland on the Gold Coast.
The introduction of prize money in the 2015 J2J had the desired effect with a large group of serious runners from South-East Queensland, including some internationals, competing in the event. "We had some runners of the highest calibre here last year. We're offering a prize pool of $6,800 again because we want this race to continue to be on everyone's radar," says Kate.
"There are also plenty of goodies just for turning up," explains Kate. "Entrants in the 21km and 10km will receive an official J2J singlet, while 5km and 3km participants will score an official J2J cap. And the coveted J2J finishers medallion is back again in 2016."
The 2016 J2J is also highlighting a very worthy cause with runners encouraged to fundraise for ovarian cancer research. For more information or to register, visit www.j2j.com.au or call (07) 3897 4999.
