4 or 5 girls. During their 15 minutes riders
can perfect their manoeurves or time-race
themselves through as many laps as they
can complete.
These "Cowboys on Steel Horses" start
young. Six year old Jack Stephenson is
pictured on the front cover riding his KTM
50SX in the Under 50cc class. His younger
sister, Maddy, aged 3, also has started riding,
but not yet on the practice days. Ten month
old Tom has some time to wait.
Their dad, Nathan Stephenson, is President
of the club (ph 0427 638 835). Many residents
know him as the Natural Resource Manager
for Goondiwindi Regional Council. Nathan
has always had an interest in motorbikes;
he started riding when he was 3 years old,
mustering sheep with his dad. Mum, Renee,
works as an officer with the Qld Murray
Darling Committee.

The Tough Boy Flying High on the front
cover is 12 year old Jake Donpon on a KTM
85SX in the 85cc class. Jake is at St Mary's
primary School in Goondiwindi. His dad,
Jason Donpon, vice-president of the club is
the middle lower photo. And Charles Loy,
aged 17, is in the right photo in Opens class.
Charles is in Year 12 at Goodiwindi State
High and doing a traineeship with Darren
Dillon in preparation for an apprenticeship as
a diesel mechanic. The young rider (bottom
left), 6 year-old Jack, is mentioned above.

CRF 150. Also in the 85cc class. Mathew is at
Goondiwindi State Primary School. Mathew's
dad, Mick Gore of Gore Earthmoving, has
donated a lot of time and machinery to fixing
up the club track.
Wayde Jones from Tarragindi visiting
Goondiwindi, amongst the mud and
obstacles.
On this very Goodiwindi track, during
the late 1990's and early 2000's was held
the Nathan Wilson Memorial Open, Shell
Queensland State Series, SEQ Junior Series,
Northern In-land Series and Go Girls' (an all
female event).
All photos were taken by Renee Stephenson.
Nathan says she 'Dedicates too much of
her time at the motorcross track with her
husband and three kids', but it is greatly
appreciated.
The Goondiwindi Motorcycle Club could
not function without the many families who
dedicate their time to the Club.
Back in the 1960 and 70's I used to ride
a ten-speed pushbike and motorbikes (a
Honda XL 500, FT 500 and Suzuki GSX 450)
around Melbourne. These days I run 5.5 km
most mornings at Peachester near Beerwah.
Seeing the Goondiwindi Motorcycle Club
being so successful is great.
Needless to say but we'll say it anyway: "A
Pocket Book is the only phone book and
street directory which fits into the pocket of a
motorcycle leather jacket".
