Pocket Books established 1990

Pocket Books are community based phone books for regional cities, towns and districts. Pocket Books provide huge amount of hard-to-get local community information. We aim to provide much larger number of listings of local firms and activities than any other phone directory covering the same district. Pocket Books are delivered free to most houses and businesses within the local area. In most districts the book itself fits into a shirt pocket or handbag - hence the name Pocket Book.

Our Business Pages typically list 20% more businesses for the local area than the main opposition book. We list hundreds of clubs and community activities, dozens of government listings, local emergency phone numbers and contacts, and even community halls. In rural areas we also list properties by name.

These are some of the many reasons why, when Pocket Books have done surveys in areas where we compete with other phone books, we have typically found some two-thirds of residents first reach for Pocket Book for local goods and services.

In addition, all Pocket Books have full street directories, diaries, calendars and/or lunar calendars, weight & measures conversions, rain charts, and, most importantly, a proper Alphabetical Pages listing of residential names and firms and their phone numbers.

But Pocket Books' Alphabetical Pages go considerably further with a totally original cross-referencing system. With this, almost every firm listed in Alphabetical Pages has a reference in the phone number column telling you in which classification in Business Pages you will find that firm. (The first word of the classification is usually spelt in full, and the second word is abbreviated.) This cross-referencing makes both parts of the book function as one book.

With Pocket Book you have the widest choice for finding a local product or service, and then you have a street directory to help locate the firm, and a diary to write your appointment time, as well as holiday listings, school holidays, rain charts, moon phases, emergency numbers, and on page one even room to write your own name to personalise your own Pocket Book.

Caboolture - Bribie Island - Kilcoy, Gladstone - Boyne Tannum - Biloela, Hervey Bay - Fraser Island, Goondiwindi - Mungindi, Southern Downs - Warwick - Stanthorpe - Texas - Inglewood and Moorabool - Bacchus Marsh - Ballan have all enjoyed their Pocket Books for up to 22 annual editions already.

The founders of Pocket Books, Gerard and Nevenka Clarke, together with a dedicated staff, run the business from the famous Queensland town of Beerwah (The home of Australia Zoo). Gerard has worked in advertising with real estate, cinemas, calendars and for other directories. He saw a need for a far better form of directory for regional cities. His wife, Nevenka, is a computer systems developer and a statistician mathematician. Together they designed this unique Pocket Book system for you.

The result is an innovative growing business operating in a field where the major telephone book company has virtually never faced real competition, and with advertising rates at literally only a fraction of theirs. Space for space Pocket Book advertising rates are around 1/3 of their price, with prime positional ads being approximately 1/8 of their price. (see our Place Advertisement page)

Whether you have Pocket Book by the phone, in your car, or in your pocket or handbag, you'll love using it every day.
