The Bacchus Marsh Scout Group & Ballan Scout Group are member organisations of Scouts Victoria delivering the Scout program to boys and girls from across the Moorabool Shire. Between the two Groups, each offers a program tailored to the ages of young people: Joey Scouts 6 - 7 years, Cub Scouts 8 - 10 years, Scouts 10 - 14 years, Venturer Scouts 14 - 17 years, Rover Scouts 18 - 25 years & Leaders 18+ years.
The Bacchus Marsh Group has over 80 members and the Ballan Group over 50 members. The scout groups meet on a weekly basis (except school holidays) and all young people are welcome to attend. Scout Leaders, often parents themselves, are enthusiastic about working with the young people and building resilience, self-worth, and a sense of caring for others.
An Award Scheme is a part of all scouting groups, covering many different areas from meeting new friends to gaining personal confidence, responsibility, leadership and teamwork. These qualities will help the youth throughout their life at home, socially, in-school and even later in life during their career path.
The local scouting group goes on camps ranging from nights in the scout hall to camping in cabins and in tents. As the scouts progress through the sections, the camps become increasingly detailed and enjoyable. Camps are not strictly limited to the Bacchus Marsh or Ballan Group, they are often joined by one or two other scout groups, districts, states, national and even international scouting groups as the youth get older.
Scouting also teaches survival skills - not just outdoor survival but societal and community resilience. Parent help is always welcome with fund raising to upgrade equipment and to help subsidise major camps. Help is also needed on meeting nights to do the “behind the scenes” work to help the leaders get through their program. Leaders are usually parents themselves who started out by helping the leaders before them.

The walkers, under the able guidance of Sue Libbis, who deliver your Pocket Book® have a very special connection to the Scouts. During the 1980s, the father of Sue Libbis, Ron Horan, was the chief scout leader of the then Djerriwarrh Scout Troop.
